Sometimes trying to forget becomes remembering, like how the smudges left by a graphite covered rubber re-draw instead of remove the pencil line. Scribbling out lines does not ‘out’ the lines, it multiplies them, obscuring but emphasising their presence. It redraws the careful lie of the line into an ill-considered confusion. There are other ways to erase.
